What is NetMasjid?
NetMasjid is Muslim owned and operated and located near Chicago. It
offers a targeted set of tools and services to better serve our
communities by improving communication, engaging young people, and
enhancing the productivity of volunteers and staff.
How did NetMasjid get started?
We started out by thinking about the difficulties we face in
interacting with our own local Masajid. What time is Jumu'ah salat? Who's
giving the khutbah today? Why do so few people attend our classes and
special sessions? When does Ramadan start? What time is Fajr? We just had
a death in the family - what do we do? When is Sunday school registration?
How much does it cost? What's going on this weekend?
We then looked at what challenges our Masajid face. Who's going to
collect all those pledges from the last Fundraiser? How many members have
paid? Who's eligible for office and who can vote? Mr. Ahmed, our treasurer
has moved to another state - what is the state of our finances? How much
tuition is outstanding for our full-time school?
We realized that most Masajid are run by volunteers, people with good
hearts and little spare time that work thanklessly to build and maintain
these vital institutions. Wouldn't it be nice if we could apply our
years of professional experience, technical skills and management
schooling to help make these organizations more efficient and productive.
This led us to create NetMasjid, a service that can help you meet many
of these challenges. NetMasjid provides tools that these workers can use
to quickly and easily disseminate important information, gauge interest,
and automate tasks so that a little effort can go a long way.
What's happening at the Masjid?
Masajid big and small have so much more to offer than
simply a place to offer Salatul Jum'uah. They educate our children
on evenings & weekends, provide venues for social functions like
marriages and aqeeqas, inform and enlighten us through khutbas and guest
speakers, and provide social services for families and individuals in
need.
Despite the impressive array of services they provide,
they often fail to communicate these to their members.
Getting the most out of our Volunteers.
This impressive list of services are provided by a
relatively small number of dedicated volunteers, and by any reasonable
measure, Muslims living in the west have made great strides in building up
these institutions. However, a strictly volunteer, part-time
workforce can only take us so far.
After years of involvement in local institutions we at
NetMasjid have felt many of the shortcomings of complete reliance on
volunteers. Though a few core people are relied upon for decades to
keep things moving forward, many others help out for a time, and then move
on. This means that we continually re-invent the wheel and quite
often repeat the same mistakes.
Can we help our volunteers be more productive?
Professionalism
It is our goal to provide our institutions with the tools
and services needed to enable them to communicate better with their
members, to better harness the productivity of their volunteers, and to
better handle the transitional nature of volunteer service.
We use a mix of professional service and technology to
achieve this. Learn more...
